Arrival
Sunday we trained at the gym and then headed for the airport where we were led into security by a man from El Salvador! We were quite a site with all 10 huge suitcases + hoops + ribbon sticks and gym bags and garment bags and....
The night in Seattle and the ride to the airport in the early AM on Monday went very smoothly. We first flew to Houston (3 hour break) and then onto SS. The people who greeted us were very friendly. The girls loved being picked up with a welcome Canada sign and a bus with the event poster on the side. It was a long day - we met Mrs. Koop (our judge) traded a few stories and just went to bed.
Tuesday morning we went to the gym for 2 practices and were there from 12noon till 6pm. The girls trained very well. I was totally impressed with their composure and confidence.
There are 6 countries at the event...Costa Rica, Venezuela, Brazil, Guatemala, Canada and El Salvador.
Competition: Day 1
Victoria started us off with a bang. In a field of National team novices she was HOT...both physically (yes the gym was very mucho hot) and on the floor. A sensational free earned her an unbelievable 4th place (9.2). Her rope (with the exception of one...rather...big drop) was also very strong. No hesitations and very expressive...great ring turn too! 9.175 and 7th place! HOLY SMOKES!
Rylee and Kelsey were HOT on her tail. Ry`s rope was dynamic and smart.
Highest score of the whole competition 1st place and 11.225 whoa.
Ry says: It was awesome and energizing.
Kelsey jumps at the start of rope was TO THE MOON! first section was great, then a bit fumbly after that which slowed her down so she was a bit late.
In her own words: It just kinda happened.
9.6 and 2nd place
Kelsey`s hoop didn`t feel satisfying, but I (C) thought she stayed calm and smart. We don`t know score/place yet...but probably similar to rope...maybe a higher score? Guess we`ll see tomorrow.
Rylee`s hoop was un!&%$·ing believable!!! she had THAT sparkle and captured everyone`s attention.
score and place still unknown.
Competition: Day 2
Victoria did an amazing ball routine and a great ribbon. She ended up 5th over all - :)
Kelsey did an incredible incredible ball routine - she received the highest execution score in the whole competition!! Kelsey placed 3rd over all - :)
Rylee created the magic again that she can do and made Camille cry during her ball routine. She placed 1st over all - :)
The girls said it was such a rush to stand and have the Canadian anthem played as their flag was raised.
The most memorable routines of the whole competition were Kelsey's ball and Rylee's hoop.
HOW FUN WAY TO GO TEAM CANADA!!!!!!
Tomorrow they are off to an orphanage then to the beach. All three girls will compete all 4 routines in finals on Saturday.
Good night all
Friday
YES, the girls were fabulous! We`ll tell you more details about the All Around competition when we get home, but overall it was just a great experience for all! A really strong team from Venezuela had been stuck in a political protest in Peru and arrived late...their addition added to the level of competition excitement and mixed things up a bit. All three girls posted some of their best scores ever and no wonder - such great routines. My favorites so far were Victoria`s ball, Ry`s hoop and Kelsey`s ball. We`ve video`d everything so you`ll all get to see everything!
Today we went to the orphanage...such an experience. We got to see where they live, what they do, what they need...we got to give them some presents, show them and teach them some gymnastics then just cuddle and play together. Such tender and beautiful hearts. The Mother Superior in charge is a true saint (by any definition)...love and joy just radiate from her - what an amazing human being...what an inspiration. They all so appreciated the gifts from everyone.
This afternoon we went to the beach. The girls had a chance (ok..me too) to play in the waves...suntan and relax. A great little escape and chance to see the country. I think that photos will tell much more than I can with my words.
Thanks again for all of your support.
We love your messages.
Finals tomorrow!
We are all eager and excited.
Finals
Today we were at the gym almost all day.
Victoria had great finals today. She started off with a strong free routine and placed 6th!! Then she did a really great rope...caught her double roll and her end and everything!!! 4th place - WOWWW!!!! Then she matched that with another gorgeous ball routine to take 4th place again!!! She had a few problems with ribbon, but still got in some great moves and some very impressive turns. 8th in ribbon...what a finals!!! The finals presentations were fun with separate march outs for each group of finalists. It was so exciting to see Canada represented at each of those finals (by us)...you`d all be so proud!! She was sparkling, happy and just so excited.
Rylee and Kelsey really showed their skills one more time in finals and between them they took every gold medal available to juniors!
Rope Kelsey 1st and Rylee 2nd
Hoop Rylee 1st and Kelsey 8th
Ball Kelsey 1st and Rylee 2nd

All 3 girls had a Personal Best scores ever at this event with (I hope I remember these correctly) Victoria 10.8 (a long way from her 2.1 only 10 months ago!!lol), Rylee 12.3 and Kelsey 12.4!!
Hearing O Canada (or should I say the first 30 seconds of it) every single time was soo fun!
My personal highlights today were Victoria`s rope, Ry`s hoop and Kelsey`s rope.
They truly did an incredible job!
Kelsey looked so confident and powerful - it was exciting to see her step into her own. Watching her today brought me such deep pleasure. Rylee was affected by the heat in her first routines, but just kept giving her best tries and her usually sunshine sparkle shone through every time.
Hooray Team!!
We`ll be home soon!!!!!!
Hugs and Kisses to all of you!

have just spoken with camille and rylee and they are having trouble accessing their internet server, and have asked me to tell the tale of the day.
They arrived to chilly weather – (we have all taken winter coats to Leah’s house who will deliver them tomorrow) and a total mix up of rooms - athletes seperated in all directions. After some shenanigans they ended up (all 5 together) with a two bedroom corner suite with large windows, a full kitchen, bathroom and a furnitureless living room until they stole a couch from down the hall. They found meal number one inedible, so opted for safeways and ceasar salads.
Both ry and camille sounded very happy and excited – they have training tomorrow from 9 -11 and then carpet time from 11:05 -11:30
Hopefully camille will get someone to help her get the internet up and running and she can post tomorrows notes, -otherwise you may be hearing from me again

(posted by Camille and Rachel)
We are all so happy.
Everything that is a problem seems to magically turn into perfection.
ROOMS:
We are thrilled with our arrangement...we have our own (just the 5 of us) space...full suite!!! So blessed!!!
FOOD:
Rachel and the chef made some special arrangements
and we now enjoy special meals... delivered hot...to our table...and are the only ones that are getting this!!?? It Pays to ask!! (rachel said)
Tonight we had rice noodles, steamed veggies, veggie stir fry and chicken breast! YUMMY YUMMY
TRAINING:
The girls were wonderful. Though they were a little tentative for the first few minutes, they quickly worked through it. Each of them did 3 routines with music and we had more carpet space and time than anyone!!! - thanks to a BC team that didn't show for training. The girls were surprisingly clean and confident. Such stars!!
This afternoon we went back to watch Ontario and Quebec train - such a treat! Orlando looks phenominal - in her best shape ever! Orava's speed and charm are glowing and Carew is fit, and more expressive than ever before. The novices and juniors were also great - all of it was so inspiring.
Speaking of inspiring, last night we all got the opportunity to go to the lecture hall to hear Steve MacLean share his experiance as a Canadian Astronaut. Incredible and profoundly meaningful.
Tonight we are planning on laying low...watching a DVD and getting psyched for the BIG DAY!!!
Love you all,
C and R and team

(posted by Camille)
We are back from Nationals! What an amazing experience! From watching Karen Cockburn (Olympic medallist) win Trampoline to the being awed by the many little artistic dynamos to the elegant and powerful rhythmic stars this was an event to remember!
Our girls were wonderful! Here is more about them and thier results:
Novice:
There was an unprecedented power group in Novice. So many accomplished and experienced athletes - incredibly impressive! Victoria started with Rope: she started out strong with a fabulous cossack turn and loads of expression, but was shaky in the middle where she had a drop (struggled judging where her rope was against that high high ceiling). Next was free anx she totally nailed it! Everyone thought she was a little Camille Martens out there - so many great comments. The next day she did hoop and ball. Ball was first and despite one small drop she had moving expression and great execution. Hoop, she totally nailed. Overall a great first nationals for our Miss Victoria who finished an impressive 20th overall.
Free - 16th
Rope - 24th
Hoop - 19th
Ball - 22nd
AA - 20th In the whole country!!!!! YEAH!!!!!
Juniors:
Another great field of competitors were in the junior category. Very accomplished and so many fabuous skills!

Kelsey started with a strong rope. Her jumps weren't as explosive as they can be, but it was a clean and calculated routine. Her hoop had a few drops but kept good energy and timing all the way through. Ribbon was a personal best in competition with only one small drop at the beginning. Ball was incredible...once again she had everyone's attention as people from all disciplines stopped to watch. On her last toss she appeared to catch the ball but then rolled it accross the floor causing her to miss her last 5-6 elements...we were so sad. Overall she competed pretty consistently and maintained a great attitude.
Rope - 23rd
hoop - 25th
ball - 27th
ribbon - 26th
overall - 27th
Rylee started with a clean and seemingly effortless rope. Her hoop started out with the usual magic but doubt crept in after a small drop (in the catch in 360) and she was hesitant and shaky at the end. Her ball was magic, clean and fabulous (we received many compliments) and her ribbon had some sketchy elements but great rhythm and energy. The competition was very tight and every error cost placements which made the event very exciting to watch!
Rylee's results:
rope: 11th
hoop: 20th
ball: 11th
ribbon: 12th
overall: 12th (only 0.30 from 10th!)
We were very proud of the girls for the routines they did, for the way they carried themsleves amidst this elite and experienced crowd of athletes and also for their results.
On Saturday we watched finals (top 8 in each event) and were very inspired - we are so excited to try new things.
Saturday night there were dance parties...one for the athletes and another for the adults (coaches/officials). We all had sensational times!!!
Home now, tired and inspired.
Looking forward to seeing you all soon.

We are back from the
2007 Western Canadian Championships
It was a great event in so many ways, held at the Kinsmen Centre (a large multi-sport athletic facility) in Edmonton - hosted by Rhythmic Gymnastics Alberta (they are always amazing).
Every single one of our girls met or surpassed our expectations.
We are soo proud!
The team consisted of athletes/coaches/managers and of course our own amazing cheering section of parents! :)

There were hundreds of incredible athletes from BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. I was writting little posts on our website (in the forum) with updates, so I'll just copy/paste those here.

It was a great day!
I will do my best to remember scores/placings.

Next came Level 5s. Amanda (on her 15th bday) did an incredibel ball (7.10 for teh silver medal) and a good ribbon (5.8 and I think 8th place). Julianna did well and had 7.95 in ball (Gold Medal) and 7.20 in ribbon (also Gold medal). Soo impressive in such a big and strong field.
